This is written as info for people like me, "The Financially Challenged."
I found a web site where business computers are sold at very low
prices. Sold there are "off lease business machines," desktops,
servers, work stations, notebooks and accessories. It can best be
described as a slightly hidden official Dell web site.
My notebook sold for $424 and has no state tax. Two or three years ago
it would have been a hot machine. Two or three years ago was the time
I decided computer companies reached a point where "general purpose
machines" had enough speed, memory, hard drive and O/S to be "good
enough" for my use and I would not have any use for the newer faster
machines.
For example, I have on the way a Dell Latitude D600 notebook machine.
I searched for and found one that still has time on the warranty.
Processor is a 1.4GH Pentium M (good battery life and low heat and
power figures). Screen is high resolution 14", with 32MB Vram ATI
video card. 40MB hard drive - upgradeable, a DVD-Rom / CD-RW Combo
drive, 512MB upgradeable to 2GB, legal Windows XP+ with standard disks
and built in 56K modem. Probable original cost may have been over
$2000. I also paid $24 for the $200 docking station with another power
supply and NIC built-in.
If this interests you be advised that the first machine I decided on,
was sold while I made up my mind, 30 minutes, and was a 1.6GH with
DVD-RW Combo drive. There were also 15" screen, 64MB video, 2GH
Pentium 4's for sale. Selections are limited as this is a business
off-lease site.

Everyone may not know about Dells Outlet Site selling UNUSED machines,
also scratch and dent, and new machines returned for hardware failure,
DOA's.

Good Luck!
